Lydia Ericsson Wärn
–
(b. 1994, Stockholm, Sweden) continually returns to her own reposed body. This repetition has become almost ritualistic, a continual effort to produce new outcomes while revisiting the same subject. Her paintings evolve reactively, allowing gesture and emotion to dictate their form, while the recurring figure acts as a constant point of return. Lydia often refers to this figure as 'scaffolding' – an immovable presence that is alternately absorbed into, or emerges from, the surrounding swathes of colour. For Lydia, painting is fertile ground for renegotiating possibility and restraint, where the self is never fixed but remains in a constant state of becoming.
