Hot Wheels Athens, Athens
3 June–12 September 2025
Brunette Coleman is pleased to present an exhibition that brings the energy of London’s contemporary art scene today to Athens. The project reflects the gallery’s ongoing commitment to connecting two cities at formative moments: Athens, in the pivotal years following documenta 14, and London, where a renewed spirit of initiative, momentum, and collective energy is shaping the post-Brexit cultural landscape.
Presented under the auspices of Hot Wheels Athens London, the exhibition foregrounds the distinct voices of artists who are variously tethered to London, each presented by one of the city’s galleries. Through concentrated presentations of individual practices, the exhibition looks to London’s contemporary art scene—shaped by intergenerational voices, diverse material approaches, and cultural investments that extend beyond the boundaries of the art world.
Each artist is showing a single work or series, drawing attention to the particularities of their distinctive practices.
Desert Rose (extended) makes reference to defensive civic structures implemented across cities. Alluding to fencing, spikes, dividers and barriers, these intrusions are often installed to appear invisible, but choreograph our everyday movements and the way we move through the world.
Roddam compresses blades from industrial fans into a line, painting them off-white to mirror the neutrality of the gallery walls which surround. Removed from their function, Roddam is intrigued by the often overlooked infrastructure that keeps quotidian life running smoothly, highlighting systems that remain invisible until they break down.
Home Furnishings is made from flecks of wallpaper stripped from an abandoned house. Roddam refashions them into discrete shapes referencing furniture in architectural floor plan templates. The collaged cut outs reimagine how the space was or could be inhabited.
